With the growing interest in renewable energy sources, more and more businesses and households are looking for suitable programs for installing photovoltaics. The good news is that there are various grant-free financing schemes for photovoltaics that can significantly reduce the initial costs.
Photovoltaic construction programs with European funding
One of the new opportunities for financing photovoltaics is the procedure “Diversification and Adaptation of SMEs to the Economic Transition”, aimed at companies in the regions with coal mining industry, such as Stara Zagora, Pernik and Kyustendil. The program offers up to 100% grant financing, which can be used to purchase and install photovoltaic systems for their own electricity production. This not only reduces electricity costs, but also contributes to the sustainable development of the business.
Basic program parameters
- Application period: January 29 – May 15, 2025.
- Supported regions: Kyustendil, Pernik, Stara Zagora and the 10 municipalities of the Maritsa Basin (Dimitrovgrad, Elhovo, Nova Zagora, Simeonovgrad, Sliven, Topolovgrad, Tundzha, Harmanli, Haskovo, Yambol).
- Sectors that can apply: Manufacturing, catering, healthcare, construction, architectural and engineering activities, information technology, waste management, renewable energy production, etc.
The program finances costs for:
- acquisition of machinery, facilities and equipment, representing fixed assets (FIXED);
- acquisition of specialized software for the production process, representing a long-term intangible asset (LIA);
- construction and installation costs (C&I) related to investments in SME diversification;
- costs for renting work premises – up to 10% of the total eligible costs of the project;
- Land purchase costs – up to 10% of the total eligible project costs
- costs for services necessary for the development of new products/services – up to 20% of the total eligible project costs;
- costs for technical assistance in support of start-ups.
Depending on the region in which the project is implemented, the type of enterprise and the aid regime, companies may receive grant funding as follows.
For the districts of Kyustendil and Pernik:
- for micro and small enterprises – from 40% to 100%
- for medium-sized enterprises – from 30% to 100%
For municipalities in Stara Zagora district and additional municipalities related to the Maritsa Basin:
- for micro and small enterprises – from 70% to 100%
- for medium-sized enterprises – from 60% to 100%
The maximum amount of aid for micro and small enterprises is BGN 500,000, and for medium-sized enterprises BGN 1,000,000. The minimum value of the grant is BGN 50,000.
Other national and European photovoltaic financing programs
In addition to the coal mining program, there are other opportunities for financing photovoltaic projects, including:
- Enterprise Energy Efficiency Program ENergy Open Call 2
- The National Household Assistance Program, which subsidizes part of the costs of building photovoltaic systems for their own needs.
Why invest in photovoltaic systems?
Investing in a photovoltaic system not only provides long-term savings, but also stability against volatile electricity prices. Moreover, with the available financing options, the return on investment becomes even faster.
